With 80 residential parking permit (RPP) zones (restricted parking) spanning every quadrant of the city, and over 40,000 parking permits issued annually, the RPP program has grown exponentially since its introduction in 1974. To balance the changing parking needs of residents, visitors, businesses and neighborhoods, The City is requesting the input of Calgarians, regardless of whether they live in an RPP zone.
“The options we are presenting are a result of our work with Calgarians over the last few months,” says Project Manager for the Residential Parking Permit Review, David Hill. “Earlier this year, we heard from over 900 participants sharing their thoughts on the current program. We used this feedback, along with technical expertise to develop possible options and informed recommendations.”
Calgarians and businesses are invited to provide input online before June 26 at calgary.ca/rpp or join us at an in-person event.

Key themes regarding how the policy is administered will be discussed, including the use of on-site parking over street parking, shared use of street space (not exclusive to homeowners) and how the program is financially supported. Day-to-day operations such as ticketing and permit distribution are administered by the Calgary Parking Authority and are not part of this review.
The input gathered from this phase will help to develop recommended policy changes that will be presented to Council early 2020.
