The City’s street sweeping program is set to resume in residential areas on Tuesday, April 30 following heavy snowfall over the weekend. As the schedule may have changed, residents are asked to watch for signage and verify their neighbourhood’s scheduled sweeping dates. Vehicles must be moved off roadways during scheduled sweeping to avoid fines.
“Between 10-15 centimetres of snow fell in Calgary over the weekend. As a result, our Road crews had to resume winter operations – using graders and plows to clear the main routes,” says Bill Biensch, road maintenance manager. “With temperatures expected to stay above zero for the rest of the week, we can resume our street sweeping program.”
Sweeping on major routes will resume this evening, while sweeping in residential areas is scheduled to resume tomorrow morning. Residents are asked to stay informed by visiting calgary.ca/sweep to check the updated schedule and are also encouraged to sign up for text and email notifications.
Street sweeping signs on the roads in the residential areas will also be changed/removed in the coming days. Please keep an eye out for updated signs and remove vehicles and garage bins as required.
Spring clean-up, our annual roadway maintenance program, improves safety and mobility in Calgary by removing sanding materials and other debris that have accumulated on over 16,000 lane kilometres of city streets throughout winter.
The City is asking Calgarians to help us make a clean sweep of Calgary this spring. Remove vehicles and carts from the street when sweeping is scheduled. Keeping the road clear of vehicles and other objects will help crews sweep faster and more effectively. “See the sign, know the time.”
